Branca, Industrial Facility: Design of the Year 2011

The Branca armchair by the Bristish design studio Industrial Facility on behalf of Mattiazzi, an Italian furniture company, just won the furniture Design of the Year 2011 award, one of the most coveted categories of the Brit Insurance Design competition. Branca, a satin-finish polished wooden seat, imitates the natural growth patterns of twigs and branches, backrest and armrests seemingly growing seamlessly from just one piece of wood.
