Vitra Marries Artek

On September 6th, Vitra announced the acquisition of the iconic scandinavian brand Artek, founded in 1935 in Finland by architect Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino, art promoter Maire Gullichsen and art historian Nils-Gustav Hahl. A match made in heaven, some will say. According to Rolf Fehlbaum, the son of Vitra's founders Willi and Erika Fehlbaum, “the Finnish design company is more than a collection of furniture; like Vitra it is a commercial-cultural project which plays an avant-garde role in its sector. For Vitra it is important that Artek can continue and further develop this role.” Artek will continue as a separate entity, the two companies will especially join their forces for manufacturing, distribution and logistics.

Form Us With Friends

Back from the Stockholm Design Week - and before I can find some time to give a complete review, a few pics of the Form Us With Love design studio 3rd "Friends" exhibition (unofficial pictures of the party to come!).

Bento, Form Us With Love & One Nordic Design Furniture

New brand One Nordic Design Furniture ambitions to rethink the furniture industry with the help of the Form Us With Love design studio. The name of their first series, "Bento" (to be introduced during the Stockholm Design Week 2012) , is a wordplay both hinting to the Japanese word (meaning "convenient", as much as the namesake lunch box) and the Finnish tradition of bentwood.
